NEWARK, DE — The Delaware State Police have arrested a Newark man on multiple charges following a series of burglaries to businesses across New Castle County over the past month.

Jimmy Kelly, 44, was taken into custody on November 21, 2023, after being identified as a suspect in a string of nine burglaries that took place between October 21 and November 17, 2023. The businesses targeted were located in Newark, Wilmington, and Middletown.

In each incident, the perpetrator allegedly forced entry by shattering the front glass door during the early morning hours, subsequently removing property before fleeing the scene in an unknown vehicle.

The businesses affected include Nails Haven, Jiffy Lube, and Dimples Nail Boutique in Newark; Dogtopia in Wilmington; La Camarona Restaurant and Cunningham Irish Pub in Newark; and Amstel Barbershop, Go Green Cleaners, and Kingdom Spa in Middletown.

Detectives from Troop 2 Property Crimes, working alongside out-of-state law enforcement agencies, identified Kelly as the suspect in these burglaries. He was located and arrested without incident at a Wawa in Newark, Delaware.

Kelly now faces multiple charges, including eight counts of Burglary Third Degree, two counts of Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony, one count of Attempted Burglary, four counts of Theft Under $1,500, and nine counts of Criminal Mischief.

Following his arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 2, Kelly was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a secured bond of $28,500.

The Delaware State Police continue to investigate the incidents and urge anyone with further information to come forward.

Information, a criminal complaint, or an arrest is not a declaration of guilt. A suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
