NEW CASTLE, DE — Delaware State Police have arrested a local woman, 27-year-old Jaquoya Smith, in connection with an alleged robbery that occurred on Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of a New Castle gas station.
According to police reports, on January 10, 2024, at approximately 3:01 p.m., troopers were dispatched to the Super Gas station located at 3006 New Castle Avenue following a report of a robbery. The ensuing investigation led troopers to learn that the suspect had allegedly approached a 40-year-old woman in the parking lot and demanded money from her.
While the victim was complying with the demand, the suspect reportedly struck the victim in the face and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. Unexpectedly, Smith returned to the scene of the alleged crime a short while later, where she was subsequently apprehended by troopers.
Smith was taken into custody and transported to Troop 2. She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was charged with robbery in the second degree, a felony, and assault in the third degree. Following her arraignment, Smith was committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $2,500 secured bond.
It is important to note that an arrest or a criminal complaint is not an indication of guilt. All suspects, including Smith, are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
