NEW CASTLE, DE — The New Castle County Division of Police have made a significant breakthrough in a series of burglary cases that have rattled local residents. Officers have arrested 29-year-old Juan Sanchez of New Castle following a spate of alleged burglaries.
On January 2, 2024, officers from the C and D Squads responded to reports of burglaries on the unit blocks of Dunsinane Drive and Jaymar Blvd. The rear glass sliding doors at these residences were discovered broken, pointing to signs of forced entry. Surveillance video and witness statements helped provide a description of the suspect.
While investigating these incidents, another burglary was reported in progress on the unit block of Clover Mills Drive. The suspect’s description matched those provided from the previous burglaries. Quick response by the officers led to the suspect’s apprehension within minutes of the call. The suspect was found carrying property allegedly stolen from the victim’s residence.
Subsequently, another burglary was discovered on the 200 block of Jaymar Boulevard. Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit Property Squad have taken over the investigations.
The suspect, identified as Juan Sanchez, was transported to New Castle County Police headquarters. He has been charged with multiple counts including two felony counts of attempted burglary first degree, one felony count of attempted burglary in the second degree, two felony counts of burglary in the second degree, two felony counts of theft, and five misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief.
Sanchez was arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and is being held in lieu of $77,000 cash bail. However, it’s crucial to note that all charges are allegations at this point, and Sanchez is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
This investigation remains active and ongoing. The New Castle County Division of Police is urging individuals with any information or surveillance footage to come forward and assist with the investigation.
