NEW CASTLE, DE — New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer recently announced the appointment of Kristie Arlotta to the newly created role of Sustainability Coordinator. The position was established as part of the county’s Pathway to Sustainability initiative, launched earlier this year. Arlotta will be responsible for ensuring that land use, sewer, and community services practices are climate-resilient.
The funding for this new role was approved by the County Council as part of the FY2024 Budget. With Arlotta’s appointment, the County takes a significant step toward bolstering its GreeNCC Initiatives, aimed at creating a more sustainable and healthier environment for residents.
“We’re excited to have Kristie join our team to ensure New Castle County government sustainability remains top of mind,” said County Executive Matt Meyer. “We’re looking forward to using her background of strong environmental engagement to make our county a healthier place to live, work and raise a family.”
Arlotta, born and raised in Yonkers, New York, moved to Delaware for her education. She graduated from the University of Delaware with an honors degree in environmental science and minors in public policy and geography.
During her academic tenure, Arlotta played a significant role in preparing a new sustainability plan for the university. She also founded the Student Sustainability Alliance to advocate for sustainability across campus, leading to the creation of a new Office of Sustainability last year.
Arlotta brings a wealth of experience from various roles, including the Newark Partnership’s Sustainability Initiative, Delaware State Parks, and the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary. As a resident of New Castle County, she is passionate about securing a sustainable future for the community.
The NCC Pathway to Sustainability is an initiative requiring public input, driven by the Executive Office. Residents are encouraged to provide their feedback and contribute towards shaping a sustainable future for New Castle County. To take the survey, click here.
