PHILADELPHIA, PA — Preparations are underway for the 2025 Mummers Parade in Philadelphia, and with it comes an announcement of significant road closures and parking restrictions throughout the city. The parade, a cherished New Year’s Day tradition, will require extensive logistical adjustments beginning Sunday, December 29, to ensure a smooth and safe event.
Key Dates and Impacted Areas
Parking restrictions will begin today, December 29, at 6 p.m. on the west side of 15th Street from Arch Street to Ranstead Street. These restrictions will remain in place until 6 p.m. on January 2. Additional significant closures include the following highlights:
- December 31: Starting at 4 a.m., parking bans will be in effect across Market Street (15th to 21st), John F. Kennedy Boulevard (Juniper to 20th), and various other neighboring streets.
- January 1: Beginning at 3 a.m., multiple streets will be closed, including Market Street from 15th to 21st, Broad Street from South Penn Square to Washington Avenue, and portions of the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. These closures will stay in effect throughout the parade.
Traffic disruptions will be particularly notable on January 1, as vehicles will not be permitted to cross Broad Street for the duration of the event. Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes and avoid double-parking, which could exacerbate congestion and is prohibited.
Public Transportation Adjustments
SEPTA services will operate on modified schedules and routes on December 31 and January 1 to accommodate the parade. Detours will affect numerous bus routes, including Numbers 4, 33, and 48, among others. Spectators are encouraged to use the Broad Street Line and the Market-Frankford Line for convenient access to parade areas.
Public Safety Guidelines
The city has issued a series of safety advisories. Attendees are reminded to monitor personal belongings, report any suspicious activity or items to authorities, and adhere to all No-Drone Zone regulations in the event area. Unmanned aircraft systems are not permitted.
Wheelchair-accessible seating is available on 15th Street near the performance area on a first-come, first-served basis, with accompanying spectator seating located directly behind.
