PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia’s iconic Mummers Parade will return on New Year’s Day, Wednesday, January 1, 2025, commencing at 9 a.m. The annual event will feature new parade highlights and traditional performances, with significant impacts on transportation and traffic in Center City.
The parade will begin at 17th and Market Streets, progress toward City Hall, and continue along Broad Street to Washington Avenue. To facilitate the festivities, numerous streets in the area will be closed, causing expected traffic delays. Motorists are urged to plan alternate routes, allow extra travel time, and exercise caution near the parade route.
SEPTA announced detours for bus routes 2, 4, 7, 9, 12, 16, 17, 21, 27, 31, 32, 33, 38, 40, 42, 44, 45, 48, 49, 64, 124, 125, BSO, and MFO. Alterations will begin as early as 2 a.m. on January 1 and remain in effect through 11:59 p.m. Riders can check SEPTA’s Alerts and Detours page for route-specific information.
For parade attendees, SEPTA recommends using Regional Rail to Suburban Station, with connections available via the Market-Frankford Line, the Broad Street Line, or Trolley services to stations near the parade route, including City Hall, Walnut-Locust, or Lombard-South.
In addition, SEPTA has confirmed that New Year’s Day services for Regional Rail, Metro, and buses will follow a Sunday schedule. Bus routes 204, 310, 311, and LUCY will not operate that day, with all regular weekday service resuming on Thursday, January 2.
Residents and attendees are encouraged to plan their trips carefully to account for potential delays and unscheduled last-minute road closures.
