STANTON, DE — Delaware State Police are investigating a tragic motorcycle crash that occurred in Stanton on Wednesday afternoon, leaving a 24-year-old man dead.
The incident took place at approximately 3:58 p.m. on March 13, 2024. A southbound white 2024 GMC Sierra, pulling an empty EBY horse trailer, was approaching the Limestone Road intersection with Tarry Lane. The GMC came to a stop in the left turn lane and, upon receiving a green arrow from the traffic signal, started making a U-turn.
Simultaneously, a gray 2004 Yamaha YZF R1S sportbike was speeding northbound on Limestone Road towards the same intersection. The front of the Yamaha collided with the right side of the GMC’s horse trailer during the U-turn maneuver.
The motorcyclist, a Claymont resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, despite wearing a DOT-approved helmet. His identity is being withheld until family members are notified.
The 60-year-old Wilmington man operating the GMC was not injured in the collision.
Following the accident, the roadway was closed for approximately four hours while investigators examined the scene and cleared the debris.
As the investigation continues, the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is asking anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
