DENVER, PA — Morphy Auctions‘ recent Firearms & Militaria Auction, held from September 10-12, 2024, achieved remarkable success, boasting a 97% sell-through rate and surpassing $7 million in total sales. The event drew a significant influx of new collectors, contributing to outstanding results across all categories.

Dan Morphy, president of Morphy Auctions, expressed enthusiasm about the expanding collector base. “This auction attracted the largest group of new players in years,” Morphy stated. He highlighted the company’s dedication to building an unparalleled firearms division, emphasizing the importance of high-quality offerings and expert team members in becoming a market leader. “It’s very exciting to see enthusiastic new collectors at our firearms sales and to hear their many positive comments about our operation and the high-quality firearms we offer. It means we are succeeding in our mission.”

The auction featured several standout sales, including a 1985 factory-original Heckler & Koch MP5SD machine gun, which sold for an impressive $123,000. This particular firearm set a new world record for the MP5 platform, marking it as a highly sought-after piece among collectors.

Equally notable was a trio of knives crafted by Ron Lake and S R Johnson, with embellishments by Barry Lee Hands. These intricately designed knives, adorned with gold, mother-of-pearl, and colored diamonds, matched the Heckler & Koch in price, selling for $123,000. The set was part of the Frank Brownell knife collection, which will see further auction installments at Morphy’s in the future.

Historical firearms also captured bidders’ interest, such as an ERMA-manufactured German MP-44 machine gun from WWII, which sold for $60,270. Another highlight was a Colt No. 3 Paterson revolver, attributed to a historical New York attorney and connected to Samuel Colt, which fetched $73,800.

The auction’s success underscores Morphy’s ability to attract both seasoned and new collectors, solidifying its reputation in the industry. With plans for future auctions, Morphy’s continues to set benchmarks in the collectibles market, offering a diverse range of high-value items to its expanding audience.
