MONGOMERY TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has embarked on a comprehensive $14.2 million improvement project aimed at revamping the Five-Points Intersection in Montgomery Township, Montgomery County. This initiative seeks to significantly enhance travel and safety for motorists navigating the busy crossroads of Route 309 (Bethlehem Pike), Route 463 (Horsham Road/Cowpath Road), and Business U.S. 202 (Doylestown Road).

As part of the ongoing efforts, PennDOT has announced lane closures scheduled for the week of April 15 through April 19, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The affected segments include Route 309 between North Wales Road and McLaughlin Road, Route 463 between Lansdale Avenue and North Wales Road, and Business U.S. 202 between Route 309 and Betty’s Avenue. Motorists are advised to anticipate possible delays and to consider allowing extra time for their journeys through these areas.

The project’s ambitious scope includes the addition of through lanes to both directions of Route 463 and the southbound direction of Route 309. This expansion will increase the number of travel lanes approaching the intersection from 15 to 18, aiming to alleviate congestion and reduce the likelihood of crashes.

Additional facets of the improvement work involve upgrading traffic signals and timing, constructing sidewalks, installing ADA-compliant curb ramps and guiderail, enhancing stormwater drainage, revising signage and pavement markings, adjusting driveway access, and mitigating erosion and sediment issues.

A notable benefit of the project will be the improved flow of traffic for westbound Route 463 motorists turning right onto northbound Business U.S. 202, facilitating smoother transitions and reducing bottlenecks.

This undertaking represents a crucial investment in the region’s transportation network, promising to bring about a safer and more efficient driving experience for the thousands of commuters and residents who navigate these roads daily. As work progresses, PennDOT urges patience and cooperation from the public to ensure the successful completion of a project that stands to greatly improve the quality of travel in Montgomery Township.
