NORRISTOWN, PA — The Montgomery County Planning Commission (MCPC) has announced a significant milestone in the Cross County Trail project. In collaboration with NV5, the technical engineering consultant team, MCPC has completed a draft feasibility study for trail completion in Plymouth and Whitemarsh Townships.
Key points to note:
- The third and final public meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 18 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The meeting will be held virtually via Zoom.
- The meeting aims to update community members on the preferred trail alignments selected.
- This study represents a major stride towards closing the existing gaps in the Cross County Trail between Germantown Pike and Erdenheim Farms, and Fort Washington State Park and the SEPTA Fort Washington Regional Rail Station.
- Community members can review the detailed concept plans for the proposed trail alignment and submit questions or comments until December 31, 2023, on the project webpage.
- MCPC and NV5 representatives will provide information about the concept plans and answer questions during the open house.
- A recording of the presentation and Q&A will be available on the project web page after December 18 for those unable to attend the meeting.
The Cross County Trail, once completed, will span from Conshohocken in the west to the Pennypack Trail in the east, covering a total distance of 17.5 miles. The trail is set to connect the Schuylkill River, Wissahickon Creek, Cresheim, and Power Line Trails. The design and engineering work for these studied sections is slated to commence in early 2024.
This project marks an important step forward in enhancing local infrastructure and providing residents with increased access to outdoor recreational opportunities. It’s a testament to the power of community engagement and strategic planning in creating spaces that benefit all residents.
