Matt Swarmer Rejoins Lancaster Stormers for 2025 Season

Lancaster Stormers

LANCASTER, PA — Right-handed pitcher Matt Swarmer is set to return to the Lancaster Stormers for his third stint with the team, adding to the roster as the 16th player signed for the upcoming season. Manager Ross Peeples confirmed the signing, emphasizing Swarmer’s crucial role as a starter.

“Swarmer has pitched very well for us the last couple of years,” said Peeples. “He will (again) be a starter for us, and we will always depend on him to eat innings, in which he generally does a good job.”

Swarmer, 31, has been a standout performer for the Stormers. After joining the team late in the 2023 season, he finished with a 4-1 record and a 3.69 ERA in seven starts, contributing to the team’s playoff run with a win over the Long Island Ducks. Over two seasons with Lancaster, Swarmer has consistently delivered, recording a 5-4 record with a 3.80 ERA in 2024 despite splitting time with the Mexican League.

Known for his strikeout prowess, Swarmer tied the Stormers’ single-game record on July 25, 2024, striking out 13 York batters over 6.2 innings. He holds the franchise lead for 10-strikeout games, achieving the milestone five times, and has fanned 151 batters in just 126.2 innings with Lancaster, averaging an impressive 10.73 strikeouts per nine innings.

Swarmer’s professional career extends beyond Lancaster. The Reading, PA native reached the majors in 2022, appearing in 11 games for the Chicago Cubs with a 2-3 record and a pair of wins over division rivals St. Louis and Milwaukee. After starting the 2023 season in Triple-A with the Atlanta Braves organization, Swarmer eventually anchored the Stormers’ pitching rotation.
