WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is progressing with extensive construction activities on Interstate 476 and the I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) as part of a $63.7 million project. This initiative aims to resurface, repair, and enhance approximately 17 miles of I-476, including its ramps and bridges, stretching from I-76 in West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County, to I-95 in Ridley Township, Delaware County.
From Monday, October 28, to Friday, November 1, lane closures will be implemented between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM on both northbound and southbound I-476 between the I-76 and I-95 interchanges. Concurrently, lane closures will affect eastbound and westbound I-76 between Matsonford Road and I-476 for essential bridge repairs.
Motorists are strongly urged to allocate additional time for their travels due to expected significant delays and backups. All activities remain contingent on favorable weather conditions.
The scope of this comprehensive project includes milling and overlaying I-476 travel lanes and shoulders, repairing 49 structures, enhancing 21 stormwater basins, addressing rock slope stabilization, repairing sound walls, and upgrading drainage and signage systems. The objective is to extend the design life of the infrastructure, improve ride quality and safety, and rectify roadside elements in poor condition.
H&K Group, Inc. from Skippack, PA, serves as the general contractor for this undertaking, funded entirely by federal resources. The physical construction phase is anticipated to conclude by late 2025.
