Marilou Smith Named Vice President for Facilities Management at Villanova University

VILLANOVA, PAVillanova University has appointed Marilou Smith as the new Vice President for Facilities Management, marking a significant career advancement for the long-time university veteran. Smith, a Villanova alumna with an MBA in real estate and finance, takes on this role after a national search that showcased a remarkable array of candidates.

Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, Villanova University President, expressed enthusiasm about Smith’s appointment: “I look forward to working with Marilou in this new role and collaborating with her to ensure that our campus continues to meet the present and future needs of the Villanova community.” He emphasized her deep commitment to the university’s Augustinian mission as a standout quality during the selection process.

In her new position, Smith will oversee all aspects of facilities management at Villanova, including facility planning, design and construction, and maintenance of the university’s buildings and grounds. Her responsibilities also encompass custodial services and environmental safety and health.

Smith’s career at Villanova spans over 28 years, most recently as the Assistant Vice President for Engineering and Construction. Her leadership has been instrumental in numerous campus projects such as The Commons, The John and Joan Mullen Center for the Performing Arts, and the upcoming Cavanaugh Family Boathouse. Additionally, she has managed a substantial $30 million annual capital renewal program and $60 million in capital projects.

Roger Demareski, Villanova University Executive Vice President, who led the search, praised Smith’s contributions: “When you look across campus, it is clear that Marilou’s leadership has already left an indelible mark on Villanova. In this new leadership position, she will continue to play a critical role in achieving the ambitious goals and vision outlined in Villanova’s Campus Master Plan.”

Smith’s extensive experience and dedication to Villanova are complemented by her personal connection to the university, as she is also the mother of three Villanova graduates.
