PHILADELPHIA, PA — Women-owned businesses in Manayunk have come together for the 4th Annual Wingwomen Program during Women’s History Month. This initiative aims to support women in the community through a donation drive while celebrating female entrepreneurs with events like the new Women’s Day Wingwomen Shopping Crawl on Saturday, March 8, from 11 AM to 4 PM.
Throughout March, the program invites community members to donate essential items for prenatal, postnatal, and menstrual health. The collected supplies will be donated to Grab-N-Flow, which provides free products for women in need across Philadelphia, and Women Against Abuse, one of the country’s largest domestic violence service providers.
“We reached out and gathered the amazing women of Manayunk and designed a program to help support women in our community,” said Brandy Deieso, owner of The Little Apple and organizer of the program. “This year, the response has been bigger than ever – we have a record amount of shops and businesses participating!”
Women’s Day Shopping Crawl Debuts
On Saturday, March 8, participating businesses will roll out special offers, pop-up events, and themed treats during the Women’s Day Shopping Crawl. Donations during the event are rewarded with MNYK Wingwomen stickers. Highlights include themed desserts, complimentary fitness classes, pink cocktails, and unique retail promotions across local businesses such as Vamp Boutique, Yanako, and The Little Apple.
“For the fourth year in a row, we reached out to some of our fellow amazing women business owners in Manayunk asking if they would like to join together as ‘The Manayunk Wingwomen’, and with the help of our beloved and supportive customers and clients, collect these super important things for this super important initiative,” said Deieso.
Community Support in Action
The Wingwomen Program focuses on gathering supplies such as pads, diapers, baby formula, and other essentials to stock Grab-N-Flow sheds across the city. These sheds supply much-needed items for women unable to afford them. Collections will continue until March 31, 2025, at over two dozen participating Manayunk businesses.
Deieso emphasized the importance of utilizing Women’s History Month to both celebrate and give back. “Women’s History Month is a time to not only just appreciate and think of the incredible, brave, and brilliant women that have paved the way for us throughout history, but to also use it as a chance to help our own women neighbors now.”
Summary
This year’s Manayunk Wingwomen Program merges charity, community, and festivity. By hosting a month-long donation drive and introducing the new Women’s Day Shopping Crawl, the initiative emphasizes the collective power of local businesses and community members in supporting women’s needs while celebrating their achievements.
