Man Arrested on Murder Charges Following a Brief Standoff in Pittston

Arrested

LANCASTER, PA — Matthew Harrison, a 48-year-old man, has been taken into custody on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, strangulation, and two counts of aggravated indecent assault. The arrest comes after a brief standoff at a hotel in Pittston, Pennsylvania, according to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office.

Harrison was wanted for questioning by the Northern Lancaster County Regional Police Department (NLCRPD) following the discovery of 49-year-old Jami Harrison, deceased at a residence in Manheim, Pennsylvania, on February 5, 2024. Responding to a 911 call made by an 11-year-old juvenile, officers found the victim with red marks on her neck and possible bruising on her forehead. The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office later ruled the cause of death as homicide by asphyxia due to strangulation, and also noted signs of sexual assault on the victim’s body.

Evidence collected during the investigation revealed text messages between the victim and suspect, as well as messages sent by Harrison to a coworker and family member that hinted at an impending crime. Harrison had also checked out of a local hotel on the day of the murder.

The NLCRPD expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and partners involved in the investigation and capture of Harrison. Arrangements are being made to transport him back to Lancaster County for arraignment. Further details on the case will be released at a later time.

As this case unfolds, it’s essential to remember that all suspects, including Harrison, are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The NLCRPD encourages anyone with additional information regarding this case to reach out to them or the Lancaster County Crime Stoppers. Tipsters may choose to remain anonymous.
