Major U.S. 422 Improvements Set to Begin: Expect Delays in Montgomery County

Travel Restrictions

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a series of construction projects on U.S. 422 that will kick off next week, signaling the start of major improvements in Montgomery County. However, these upgrades come with a warning for motorists: expect delays and allow extra time for travel.

Starting Sunday, March 10, through Friday, March 15, there will be a single lane closure in place on westbound U.S. 422 between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard in Lower Pottsgrove Township. The closure, which will take place from 7:00 PM to 2:00 PM, is necessary for shoulder reconstruction work.

Additionally, from Monday, March 11, through Friday, March 15, a single lane closure will affect eastbound U.S. 422 between Armand Hammer Boulevard and Evergreen Road in Lower Pottsgrove Township. This closure, running from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, will facilitate excavation work.

A similar scenario will unfold on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Oaks (Egypt Road) and Bridgeport/Valley Forge (Route 23) interchanges in Upper Providence and Lower Providence townships. From Monday, March 18, through Thursday, March 21, and then again from Sunday, March 24, through Thursday, March 28, there will be a single lane closure from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning for sawcutting and concrete patching.

Further disruptions will occur on Route 724 (Schuylkill Road) between Bridge Street and Route 23 (Ridge Road) in East Vincent and East Pikeland townships, Chester County. A lane closure with flagging will be in place from Tuesday, March 12, through Friday, March 15, and Monday, March 18, through Friday, March 22, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM for fiber optic line installation.

These projects are part of an $83.6 million initiative to reconstruct and improve U.S. 422 and replace two bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road. The sawcutting and concrete patching are components of a separate $6.9 million project to rehabilitate pavement on eastbound U.S. 422 between the Route 29/Phoenixville and Route 363/Trooper Road interchanges.

Motorists are being advised to exercise patience and caution when navigating through these work zones. As always, all scheduled activities are weather dependent.
