RIDLEY PARK, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a significant roadway and bridge reconstruction project in Ridley Park Borough, Delaware County, scheduled to begin in early May. The $9.8 million initiative will involve replacing the Sellers Avenue bridge superstructure and upgrading nearby roadways to enhance safety and accessibility.
Starting Monday, May 5, and continuing through Thursday, October 30, the intersection of Ridley Avenue and Ward Avenue will be closed around the clock for reconstruction work. During this period, drivers will need to follow posted detour routes, although local access for residents and businesses will be maintained. Weather conditions may impact the project timeline.
The centerpiece of this effort is the replacement of the Sellers Avenue bridge superstructure. A new 75-foot-long concrete box beam bridge will be installed, featuring two 12-foot travel lanes and sidewalks on both sides. Stability improvements will include the use of reinforced concrete material placed behind the existing stone masonry abutments.
Additional improvements will take place along the approach roads, including Ridley Avenue, Sellers Avenue/Ward Avenue, and Hinkley Avenue. These upgrades include full-depth pavement reconstruction, improved drainage systems, ADA-compliant curb ramps, new sidewalks, traffic signal installations, and hardscaping and landscaping enhancements.
