LOWER POTTSGROVE TWP, PA — Construction activities are set to continue next week on U.S. 422, Porter Road, and Sanatoga Road in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County. Part of an $83.6 million Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) project, the work involves reconstructing approximately 1.7 miles of the expressway and replacing two bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road.
From Monday, February 12, through Thursday, February 15, motorists should anticipate single lane closures on both eastbound and westbound U.S. 422 between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard, due to bridge and drainage construction. These closures will be in place from 4:00 AM to 2:00 PM for westbound traffic and from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM for eastbound traffic.
During the same period, intermittent single lane flagging patterns will also be in place on Porter Road between High Street and Sanatoga Station Road, as well as on Sanatoga Road between Linfield Road and East High Street, between 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM for clearing and grubbing operations.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through these areas due to expected backups and delays. All scheduled activities are weather-dependent.
The goal of this expansive project is to extend the design life and enhance the ride quality and safety of U.S. 422. This involves improving elements such as stormwater basins, drainage inlets, slope stabilization, guiderails, and signs that are currently in poor condition.
Under this Section M1B project, U.S. 422 will see a host of improvements, including reconstruction on both existing and revised alignments to improve curve radii, shoulder widths, and vertical clearance. Bridges and culverts will also be replaced or widened to enhance safety and travel efficiency.
Additional enhancements will include lengthening the acceleration ramp from the Sanatoga Interchange to westbound U.S. 422, installing Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) equipment along the U.S. 422 corridor, constructing sound barriers along portions of westbound U.S. 422, upgrading signage, replacing the drainage system, and improving stormwater management facilities.
