UPPER CHICHESTER TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has confirmed that construction activities are advancing on U.S. 322 (Conchester Highway) and Route 452 (Market Street) as part of a $99.47 million project aimed at improving a 1.4-mile segment of the highway in Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County.
Motorists should expect periodic lane closures seven days a week from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM through November across U.S. 322, including intersecting roads between Chelsea Parkway and the Route 452 (Market Street) Interchange. Traffic on Bethel Avenue between Dutton Street and U.S. 322/Route 452 is also affected, while westbound U.S. 322 remains reduced to one lane between the Bethel Avenue and Route 452 interchanges.
This initiative, known as Section 103, involves expanding the two-lane portion of U.S. 322 to four lanes, upgrading traffic signals, and reconstructing pavement. Additional work includes reconfiguring the Route 452 interchange and improving turn lanes at key intersections, particularly at Cherry Tree Road and Bethel Avenue. Once completed, these updates will enhance roadway capacity, improve safety, and facilitate smoother travel through this vital corridor.
Section 103 is the second phase of a larger effort to reconstruct and widen the 6.7-mile stretch of U.S. 322 that passes through Concord, Bethel, and Upper Chichester townships. All work remains subject to weather conditions, and drivers should allocate extra travel time when commuting through the construction zones.
