UPPER MAKEFIELD TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has successfully completed the replacement of the Lurgan Road bridge over the Branch of Pidcock Creek, marking a significant step in improving local infrastructure in Bucks County. This project involved replacing the aging 114-year-old bridge with a modern concrete box culvert, enhancing the safety and reliability of a structure that accommodates an average of 971 vehicles daily.
This bridge replacement is part of a broader initiative by PennDOT to rehabilitate or replace seven bridges across Bucks and Montgomery counties, under a comprehensive $7,987,000 infrastructure project. The project aims to address aging and outdated bridge structures, ensuring safe and efficient travel for residents and commuters in the area.
In addition to the Lurgan Road bridge, PennDOT has completed work on the Ashbourne Road bridge over the Branch of Tookany Creek in Cheltenham Township, Montgomery County. Several more bridges are scheduled for similar upgrades, including those on Souderton Road over the Branch of Mill Creek in Hilltown Township, Wismer Road over Hickory Creek in Plumstead Township, Allentown Road over the Branch of Unami Creek in Milford Township, Black Rock Road over Crossmans Run in Upper Providence Township, and Linfield Road over a tributary of the Schuylkill River in Limerick Township.
The construction work is being managed by Loftus Construction, Inc., based in Cinnaminson, New Jersey. The project is fully financed by state funds, reflecting Pennsylvania’s commitment to maintaining and enhancing its critical infrastructure.
