LOWER GWYNEDD, PA — Pennsylvania’s Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) has awarded $650,000 in Act 13 grant funding to three transformative projects in the 12th District, as announced by Senator Maria Collett (D-12 Montgomery). The grants aim to create new recreational opportunities, mitigate flood damage, protect local watersheds, and stimulate job growth.
Act 13, overseen by the CFA, uses a portion of the Commonwealth’s gas well impact fees to fund initiatives such as greenways, trails and recreation, watershed restoration, and flood control. These initiatives are designed to enhance community living standards and environmental sustainability.
“The grants I’m announcing today will create new recreation opportunities, prevent flood damage, and protect our local watershed – all while bringing new jobs to our communities,” said Senator Collett. “I look forward to continuing to support projects that improve the lives of working families and make our district an even better place to live, work and visit.”
One of the significant projects receiving funding is the Willow Manor Drainage project in Upper Dublin Township, which has been allocated $300,000. This project aims to address historic flooding and stream bank erosion issues, offering a proactive solution to longstanding environmental problems.
The implications of these state-funded projects extend beyond immediate environmental and recreational benefits. Investments in greenways and trails can contribute to healthier communities by encouraging outdoor activities and social interaction. They also add aesthetic value to neighborhoods, making them more attractive places to live and visit.
Furthermore, addressing flood control and watershed protection is crucial for community safety and environmental sustainability. Effective flood control measures can prevent property damage and protect residents during extreme weather events. Meanwhile, watershed protection helps maintain water quality and supports local ecosystems, both of which are vital for the health and well-being of residents.
The injection of funds into these projects also brings the promise of job creation, providing a much-needed economic boost to the local community. This aligns with broader efforts to stimulate economic recovery and growth in the wake of the pandemic.
