Loaded Gun, Crack Cocaine, and Pills Seized in Wilmington Traffic Stop

WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police announced the arrest of a 24-year-old man on gun and drug charges.

Dontel Banice has been charged with two counts of Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, and two counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance.

The criminal complaint alleges that on June 28, at approximately 7:13 p.m., members of Wilmington’s Drug, Organized Crime, and Vice Division were in the 1300 block of West 2nd Street, when they conducted a vehicle stop for a traffic violation. Officers made contact with 24-year-old Dontel Banice who was acting in a suspicious manner. Following a brief investigation, officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun, 3.8 grams of crack cocaine, and 2 Alprazolam pills. Banice was taken into custody without incident.

Banice was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $11,000 cash-only bail.
