PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that line striping is scheduled for northbound Interstate 95 on Thursday night, June 27. This work is part of a broader effort to repair and improve the interstate’s infrastructure.
A single lane closure will begin at 9:00 PM, followed by a double lane closure from midnight until 5:00 AM between Bleigh Avenue and Ashburner Street. Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through this area, as traffic backups and delays may occur. The schedule is weather dependent.
Under this contract, the general contractor, IEW Construction Group, Inc. of Hamilton, N.J., will make extensive repairs to deteriorated bridge components. The project includes fixing structural steel, weld cracks, prestressed concrete beams, and reinforced concrete bridge decks. Additional work involves repairing bridge railing, guiderail, and steel sign supports, as well as replacing expansion joints and sealing deck joints.
Substructure repairs will include reconstructing bearing pedestals, fixing steel bearings, addressing damaged concrete portions, cleaning bridge seats, resetting expansion bearings, and removing debris under the bridges. In addition, 11 overhead steel sign structures will be cleaned and repainted, and existing roadway lighting will be upgraded to LED luminaires.
This project is entirely funded by federal funds and is expected to be completed by late 2027.
