Light Pole Installation Marks Final Touches on Bucks County’s New Roundabout

Lane Closure - Traffic Alert

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — Bucks County residents are advised to anticipate minor delays next week as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) puts the finishing touches on a new roundabout at Old Bethlehem Pike and Portzer Road in Milford and Richland townships.

From Monday, February 19, to Friday, February 23, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, motorists should expect periodic lane closures with flagging through the recently constructed roundabout. While the installation of light poles is underway, backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent, so drivers are encouraged to allow extra time when traveling through the area.

This $1.9 million project, managed by Grace Industries, Inc. of Bath, PA and funded entirely by state funds, has transformed the previous intersection into a single-lane roundabout designed to improve traffic flow and reduce the number of angle crashes. The roadway lane now widens at the roundabout entry points and transitions to an 18-foot-wide circulatory width, allowing for safer and smoother navigation.

The project also focused on enhancing mobility for pedestrians and bicyclists. A five-foot-wide sidewalk was constructed on the east side of the roundabout, and an eight-foot-wide bituminous multi-use trail was added on the west side of Portzer Road. This new trail effectively connects the St. Isidore’s Trail and the Blackledge Estates Trail, providing a seamless route for outdoor enthusiasts.

The roundabout, which officially opened in November of last year, represents a significant investment in improving the transportation infrastructure in Bucks County. As the final phase of construction wraps up with the light pole installation, residents can look forward to a safer and more efficient commuting experience.
