PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a lane closure on southbound I-95 in Philadelphia next week to conduct core boring operations as part of preparations for a major infrastructure project.

From Monday, January 13, to Friday, January 17, a single lane on southbound I-95 will be closed nightly between 9:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. This closure will affect the stretch of highway between the Girard Avenue and Interstate 676 interchanges. PennDOT has advised motorists to anticipate delays and allow extra time when traveling through the area.

The core boring operations are part of the preliminary design process for the I-95/GR6 project, which will involve reconstructing a section of the southbound highway and its supporting structures between Frankford Avenue and Race Street. Construction for Section GR6 is scheduled to begin in 2026.

All scheduled work is weather dependent, and drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes during the closure hours to minimize travel disruptions.
