LANCASTER, PA — A Lancaster man accused of fatally shooting Edward Gardner in September has waived his preliminary hearing and will face charges in the Lancaster County Court. Terrance McCain Jr., 37, stands accused of first-degree murder, third-degree murder, and recklessly endangering another person.

McCain Jr., a resident of the 300 block of Laurel Street, is scheduled for arraignment on December 8 at 9 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Jodie Richardson at the Lancaster County Courthouse.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred in the 900 block of S. Duke St. following an altercation at Joe Capps Bar. On September 30, 2023, at approximately 1:19 a.m., Lancaster City Bureau of Police responded to reports of a shooting. The victim, Edward Gardner, sustained two gunshot wounds to the torso.

Witness accounts, video footage, and social media led investigators to identify McCain as the shooter. According to evidence presented, McCain Jr. was seen entering a vehicle and appeared to retrieve an object from the center console. Following a verbal altercation with Gardner, McCain pulled a handgun from his left pocket, loaded it, and discharged three rounds at Gardner when approximately 10 feet away.

After the incident, McCain Jr. turned himself into the Lancaster City Police Station on October 3. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Christine Wilson, and charges were filed by Lancaster City Bureau of Police Detective Ryan Burgett.

Information, a criminal complaint, or an arrest is not a declaration of guilt. A suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
