MANOR TWP, PA — In a recent announcement that will impact commuters in Lancaster County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has postponed the start of a crucial bridge replacement project on Route 441 (Water Street). Initially scheduled to begin this Monday, the project’s commencement has been pushed back to the following week, with weather conditions cited as the determining factor. The bridge, which crosses Shumans Run between Manor Street and Conestoga Street in Manor Township, is set for closure starting Monday, April 15.

To accommodate the closure, PennDOT has laid out multiple detour routes tailored to different types of traffic. Cars will be rerouted through a sequence of local roads including Route 462, 15th Street, Manor Street, Franklin Road, Central Manor Road, and Route 999 (Penn Street). Trucks, on the other hand, will follow a longer detour designed to handle heavier vehicles, utilizing Route 30, Route 741, and Route 999 (Penn Street). Cyclists have not been overlooked, with a bicycle-specific detour guiding them via Manor Street, Hempfield Street, and Charlestown Road.

The bridge replacement project, a significant undertaking with a budget of $1,657,024, is aimed at enhancing the safety and durability of this critical infrastructure. JVI Group, Inc., has been selected as the contractor responsible for executing the work, which is expected to reach completion by June 30, 2024.

Commuters and residents are advised to plan their routes accordingly during this period and to stay informed about project updates, which may be subject to changes based on weather conditions and other unforeseen factors.
