LANCASTER, PA — A 32-year-old man from Lancaster city is set to face charges in the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas after being accused of burglarizing two homes and attempting to sexually assault a resident. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Mohamed Camara of St. Joseph St., waived his preliminary hearing on Wednesday.
Camara has been charged with burglary – person present, attempted rape, aggravated indecent assault without consent, aggravated indecent assault – person unconscious, indecent assault without consent, and indecent assault – person unconscious.
According to allegations, Camara broke into a home on Fremont Street and another one on Manor Street in the early hours of November 16, 2023. Lancaster City Bureau of Police responded to the Fremont Street residence at approximately 6:22 a.m., where the victim reported an attempted sexual assault by an unknown male whom she managed to fight off. The intruder left behind a pair of Nike sandals and a red lighter, which are currently being processed for DNA evidence.
Furthermore, Camara is awaiting a preliminary hearing for an alleged burglary and theft at a Manor Street residence. He is accused of stealing a Samsung Galaxy Tablet from the home while the occupants were asleep. Police responded to this incident around 10:57 a.m. on the same day.
Camara reportedly confirmed his identity to police when shown images of himself from Lancaster Safety Coalition cameras that captured him during both incidents. He is currently held in Lancaster County Prison on the new burglary charges and a parole violation.
Lancaster City Police Detective Austin Krause is investigating the cases, and Assistant District Attorney Jessica Collo is prosecuting the case. Information, a criminal complaint, or an arrest is not a declaration of guilt. A suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
