EAST GREENVILLE, PAKnoll has reintroduced the Tugendhat Chair, a celebrated design by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, known for its minimalist elegance and comfort akin to a lounge chair. Originally created in 1929, this archival reissue highlights Mies’ skill in merging refinement with human-centric design, making it an ideal fit for contemporary living and workspaces.

The Tugendhat Chair stands out with its untufted seat and armrests, offering a blend of playfulness and sophistication. Its cantilevered frame provides flexibility, allowing users to change positions with ease, contrasting the fixed design of the similarly renowned Barcelona Chair. The chair’s leather strap back and cushioned seat add to its visual appeal and comfort.

Designed for Villa Tugendhat in Brno, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the chair reflects the villa’s integration of nature, art, and living spaces. Knoll has revisited this historical context to bring the chair back to life, ensuring it resonates with modern aesthetics and functional needs.

Jonathan Olivares, Knoll’s Senior Vice President of Design, emphasized the chair’s dynamic nature, stating, “When you sit in the chair, there’s a gentle bounce, giving the design a dynamic spirit. It engages the user within the space in a way that influences how the entire interior feels to that person.”

The Tugendhat Chair serves as a striking addition to casual and formal settings, appealing to new generations of design enthusiasts with its timeless and versatile charm.
