Munson has been appointed as the company’s new president and chief executive officer (CEO). Munson, who brings extensive experience in leading Medicaid-managed care plans, will officially assume her new role on February 1.
This decision comes after a comprehensive national search led by the AmeriHealth Caritas board of directors, which includes representatives from joint owners Independence Health Group and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
Munson’s appointment is expected to bring fresh perspectives and innovative strategies to AmeriHealth Caritas. She most recently served as president of Aetna Medicaid, a CVS Health Company, where she oversaw the company’s $18.5 billion Medicaid program catering to 2.8 million members across 16 states.
Gregory E. Deavens, president and CEO of Independence Health Group and chair of the Board of Directors of AmeriHealth Caritas, expressed his excitement about Munson’s appointment. During her tenure at Aetna Medicaid, Munson initiated new strategies to engage members and improve health outcomes. Prior to joining Aetna Medicaid, Munson held leadership roles at WellCare Health Plans and served on the Board of Directors of Medicaid Health Plans of America and the Institute for Medicaid Innovation.
