NEW CASTLE, DE — After more than nine years of dedicated service, K-9 Guci of the New Castle County Division of Police has officially retired, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and excellence in public safety.

Guci, an 11-year-old Belgian Shepherd from Slovakia, joined the department in 2016 at just 1.5 years old. She served as a dual-purpose patrol and explosive detection K9, working alongside her handler, Senior Corporal Devan Williams. Together, they played a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and security of the community, conducting patrol operations and carrying out explosive detection missions.

To mark her retirement on March 14, 2025, Guci enjoyed a celebratory game of catch with her favorite ball before taking one final ride in a police car. She now begins her well-earned retirement alongside S/Cpl. Williams, where she will spend her days relaxing, playing with her toys, and enjoying a peaceful life.

“The entire Department of Public Safety extends our deepest gratitude to K-9 Guci for her unwavering dedication and service,” stated department officials.

K-9 Guci’s career exemplifies the invaluable contributions of police canines to public safety. Her service underscores the critical partnership between law enforcement and their K9 companions, whose work continues to enhance community security and foster trust. Guci’s legacy will inspire future generations of police K9 teams to follow in her pawprints.
