LANCASTER, PA — Lancaster County Commissioner Josh Parsons has been chosen as the Republican nominee for the upcoming 36th State Senate District special election, scheduled for March 25. The nomination came during a caucus held on Saturday by committee members representing the district, which encompasses a significant portion of Lancaster County.
Parsons, who has served as a Lancaster County Commissioner since 2015, brings a varied professional background to his candidacy. He is a U.S. Army veteran and previously worked as a prosecutor in the Lancaster County District Attorney’s office. His experience in public service and the military is seen as a strong foundation for his run to succeed former Senator Ryan Aument, who resigned from the seat earlier this year to take on a role as State Director for U.S. Senator Dave McCormick.
“Commissioner Josh Parsons is a strong candidate in this special election, with diverse experience as a veteran of the U.S. Army, former prosecutor, and current public servant in Lancaster County,” said Michael Straw, Communications Director for the Pennsylvania Senate Republican Campaign Committee. “His background makes him the best choice to fight for good schools, safe streets, and a thriving economy. We look forward to working with Josh Parsons and are confident he will make a great Senator in Harrisburg.”
The 36th District, long held by Republicans, includes notable areas such as Elizabethtown, Ephrata, Lititz, Manheim, and Columbia, along with multiple townships including East Hempfield, Rapho, and Warwick. Given its wide geographic coverage and political prominence, the district’s representation is considered pivotal to Lancaster County’s voice in state government.
Parsons’ candidacy marks a significant moment for local constituents, as the special election will determine continuing leadership on issues such as education, public safety, and economic development. If elected, Parsons is expected to bring his combined expertise in legal matters, military service, and governance to the Pennsylvania State Senate.
With the countdown to March 25 underway, political observers are closely watching this race, which stands to influence legislative priorities in Harrisburg while addressing the needs of Lancaster County residents.
