PHILADELPHIA, PA — The vibrant city of Philadelphia is set to host the second annual OURfest: National Coming Out Parade and Festival, marking a significant event for the LGBTQ+ community. Scheduled for October 12 and 13, 2024, this celebration stands out as the first National Coming Out Parade in the United States, a testament to the city’s progressive spirit and commitment to inclusivity.

The parade kicks off on October 12 at 4:00 PM, traversing from 5th and Market to Broad and Locust. It promises to be a powerful display of unity and visibility, highlighting the resilience of those who have embraced their true selves. Following the parade, the festival on October 13, from 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM, will transform the area into a vibrant resource fair and family zone, offering support and joy to all attendees.

Philly Pride 365, organized by Galaei, is the driving force behind OURfest. This year, the event carries the theme “OURfest – OUR Future,” a call to action amidst increasing legislative challenges. Galaei Executive Director Tyrell Brown (they/them) emphasizes the importance of unity, stating, “These legislative attacks on the community’s freedoms and right to love whom we love while devastating are the perfect opportunity for us as a community to unite to bring visibility to our community, our plight, and our demand for a just, equitable world for all LGBTQ+.”

The event not only serves as a celebration but also as a platform for philanthropy. A collaborative “Beer Garden” concept will allow participants to engage with community resources, contributing donations to support local LGBTQIA+ initiatives.
