COLUMBIA, PA — In a disturbing late-night incident, a 16-year-old boy was shot in Columbia Borough, prompting an intense investigation by local police.

According to the Columbia Borough Police Department, patrol officers were dispatched to the 100 block of North Fourth Street shortly before midnight on Monday, January 15, 2024. Upon arrival, they discovered the injured juvenile who had sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. He was quickly transported to a local hospital for treatment. Fortunately, the injury is not considered life-threatening.

Police found multiple spent shell casings in the 300 block of Avenue G, leading them to believe that the shooting occurred near its intersection with North Fourth Street. Investigators have collected evidence from the scene and are currently working towards obtaining surveillance footage from several privately-owned security cameras in the area.

However, the investigation has encountered a hurdle as the young victim is reportedly uncooperative. Despite this challenge, the police department is committed to uncovering the truth behind this troubling event.

The police are calling on the public for assistance in their investigation. Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to contact Detective Matt Leddy or the on-duty Patrol Supervisor at 717-684-7735. Tips can also be submitted online, where individuals can remain anonymous.

As the investigation continues, it is important to remember that any allegations made are not a declaration of guilt. Any suspect or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
