InterDigital’s Ralf Schäfer to Join DVB Steering Board, Fortifying Media and Tech Consortium

WILMINGTON, DE — InterDigital, Inc. (Nasdaq: IDCC) has recently announced the election of their Vice President of Standards, Ralf Schäfer, to the Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) Steering Board. Schäfer will serve from 2023 to 2025, contributing to the DVB project, an industry-led consortium developing open technical specifications for digital media delivery.

As a member of the DVB Steering Board, Schäfer will join a prestigious group of 18 other members hailing from leading manufacturing and software companies including Sony, Qualcomm, Dolby, and Panasonic. The Steering Board is tasked with setting policy direction and handling the coordination, priority-setting, and management for the DVB Project. They also approve broadcast and broadband media delivery specifications and offer them for standardization in European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI).

Rajesh Pankaj, CTO of InterDigital, praised Schäfer’s appointment, stating, “As a dedicated standards professional, Ralf has made long-standing and impactful DVB contributions and will be a strong addition to the DVB Steering Board. Schäfer has been part of the DVB since 1998 and is wrapping up his fourth term of responsibilities within the DVB Steering Board. He has previously served as Chair of the Commercial Module Home Networking (CM-HN) and Commercial Module Internet Protocol Television (CM-IPTV) subgroups. In addition to his new Steering Board membership, he will continue his role as Vice-Chair of the Commercial Module and Chair of the Steering Board Budget subgroup, which prepares the annual budget of the DVB Project.
