PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that reconstruction of the southbound side of Interstate 95 is set to begin at the Bridge Street Interchange, following a mid-week traffic shift and the closure of the southbound off-ramp to James Street (Exit 27).
From Monday, June 3, through Thursday, June 6, a right lane closure on northbound and southbound I-95 will be in effect from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM between the Betsy Ross Bridge and Allegheny Avenue interchanges for core borings.
Additionally, from Monday, June 3, through Friday, June 7, the ramp from Aramingo Avenue to southbound I-95 at the Bridge Street Interchange will close from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM for emergency pavement repairs. Drivers will be detoured south on Aramingo Avenue to the I-95 south ramp at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange.
On Wednesday, June 5, and Friday, June 7, single lane closures will occur on southbound I-95 between the Cottman Avenue and Bridge Street interchanges from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM for barrier placement and removal.
On Thursday, June 6, alternating single and double lane closures will take place on southbound I-95 between the Cottman Avenue and Bridge Street interchanges from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM to establish a new traffic pattern. The southbound off-ramp to James Street (Exit 27) will permanently close. Motorists will be detoured via the northbound Aramingo Avenue off-ramp at the Betsy Ross Bridge Interchange (Exit 26), then east on Tacony Street to Bridge Street.
Finally, from Thursday, June 6, through Friday, June 7, periodic left lane closures will affect both directions of I-95 between the Betsy Ross Bridge and Bridge Street interchanges from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for spot painting and anti-graffiti coating.
Commuters should allow extra time for travel through all work areas on I-95. All activities are weather dependent.
