PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia’s Streets Department has announced that it will kick off a significant restoration project at the intersection of Winston Road and Mermaid Lane in Chestnut Hill later this week. The project involves granite block repairs and partial roadway reconstruction, aimed at preserving the historical character of the neighborhood while ensuring road safety.

These repairs are expected to last between one to two months, during which temporary lane closures will be in place to facilitate the work. The contractors will be removing existing roadway patches and replacing missing granite blocks, a process that requires precision and careful handling.

Traffic through the affected intersection is expected to continue, albeit with some disruptions. Temporary lane closures are anticipated on Winston Road between Mermaid Lane and Germantown Avenue, as well as on Mermaid Lane between Winston Road and Germantown Avenue. Detour signs will be strategically placed to guide traffic safely around the construction zone.

This restoration effort is part of the City Streets Department’s Historic Street Restoration project, an initiative aimed at preserving Philadelphia’s rich history while keeping its roads safe and accessible. Seravalli Inc. Contractors, a local firm, is tasked with the execution of the project, which is financed by City and State funding.

The Streets Department has extended its gratitude to Chestnut Hill residents for their patience and cooperation during this project. The end goal is not just a smoother ride, but a restored piece of the city’s history, right under the wheels of Philadelphians.
