PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Free Library of Philadelphia (FLP) and The Free Library of Philadelphia Foundation (FLPF) have announced a search for qualified applicants to co-create an innovative, adaptable, and impactful strategic plan.

This Request for Proposal (RFP) is an invitation to help the library meet its goals of transparency, accountability, and active participation. The successful applicant will be tasked with creating a plan that not only considers the voices of existing library users but also those of potential users experiencing barriers to service.

The initiative comes as a response to changing needs within the public, library staff, and the broader functions of libraries. It acknowledges shifts in program and service delivery methods, global trends, and the need to clarify and refine the roles of FLP and FLPF, which collectively operate the library system.

The strategic plan is set to be a three-year undertaking, encompassing six key areas: research into post-pandemic engagement patterns; strategic plan development for FLP and FLPF; business plan development for both entities; comprehensive Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) plan development; a rebranding public relations campaign; and implementation and post-execution analysis of all plans.

As a measurable and evidence-based blueprint, this strategic plan aims to ensure the Free Library of Philadelphia remains a valuable resource for all Philadelphians. It also seeks to adapt to evolving demands and expectations, ensuring the library continues to serve the community effectively.

Interested parties are encouraged to submit their proposals and responses to ourfuturetogether@freelibrary.org as a single PDF by February 7, 2024, at 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. Further details can be found attached to the library’s blog.

As the strategic planning process unfolds, additional updates and announcements will be posted on the library’s landing page.

The initiative presents a unique opportunity for the chosen applicant to shape one of Philadelphia’s most revered institutions. The strategic planning process will chart a new course for the Free Library of Philadelphia, ensuring it remains a vital part of the city’s cultural fabric for years to come.
