NEWTOWN, PA — Helius Medical Technologies, Inc. has announced the inaugural sale of its PoNS System to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Healthcare System. The system, sold through distributor Lovell Government Services, was purchased at a contracted price of $23,844, marking a pivotal moment in advancing care for veterans with multiple sclerosis (MS).
This FDA-cleared device is designed as a short-term treatment for gait deficit in adults with mild-to-moderate MS symptoms, pairing with physical therapy to improve mobility. The VA estimates there are between 55,000 and 70,000 veterans living with MS across the U.S.
“We are excited to announce the first PoNS System sale to the VA and are proud to support advancing the treatment of gait deficit for Veterans with MS,” said Dane Andreeff, Helius’ President and CEO. “This sale serves as a launching point for further penetration into this patient population as we expand our sales coverage across many VA locations.”
The PoNS System has already been included on the VA’s Federal Supply Schedule and GSA Advantage contracts, easing procurement for VA centers nationwide. This purchase also offers critical market data that Helius plans to leverage in ongoing discussions regarding Medicare reimbursement.
Helius is actively working to increase access to the device, with a team of independent sales professionals covering VA centers along the East Coast and Southeast. The company aims to extend its reach to all VA MS Centers of Excellence throughout the U.S.
Andreeff emphasized the broader mission of supporting veterans, pointing to the inspiring story of Kevin Byrne, a veteran and PoNS user featured in a recent KATU spotlight. “This order not only reinforces our commitment to this community but paves the way for making PoNS Therapy available to a greater number of those it can help,” Andreeff said.
With its first VA sale now complete, Helius Medical Technologies is poised to expand its reach, providing innovative solutions to improve the quality of life for veterans living with MS.
