Health Equity Consulting Group Introduces Storytelling and Film Initiative

The Health Equity Consulting (HEC) Group

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Health Equity Consulting (HEC) Group has unveiled a new initiative that integrates storytelling and film into public health projects. The innovative approach aims to deepen understanding of health disparities, amplify marginalized voices, and inspire tangible action to advance health equity.

The initiative will be led in partnership with acclaimed filmmaker Glenn McKenna, whose award-winning work spans collaborations with Apple, Netflix, HBO, and other major organizations. McKenna, known for his impactful documentaries such as Flint Town and Fire in Paradise, brings over two decades of experience in creative direction and storytelling to the public health space.

Public health challenges, often shaped by complex social and economic factors, can be difficult to convey through data alone. HEC’s storytelling approach leverages film’s unique ability to immerse viewers in real-life experiences, offering compelling narratives that highlight the emotional and contextual dimensions of critical issues.

“Film allows us to make the invisible visible,” said Whitney Perkins Witt, PhD, MPH, President & CEO of HEC. “By sharing the experiences of marginalized communities, we can inform policies, encourage advocacy, and inspire meaningful change.”

The collaboration between HEC and McKenna will produce high-quality visual content for healthcare organizations, nonprofits, and government agencies, equipping them with tools to engage stakeholders and the public effectively.

“I’ve dedicated my career to telling stories that spark empathy and action,” said McKenna. “Through this collaboration, we can use film to reshape the dialogue around public health and drive impactful solutions.”

HEC’s new service is poised to use the art of storytelling as a catalyst for greater awareness and sustained progress in achieving health equity.
