GSK Awards $2 Million in Grants to Boost Adult Immunization

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Global biopharma company GSK has awarded nearly $2 million in funding through its COiMMUNITY Initiative grant program to 15 organizations focused on improving adult immunization across the United States. The grants aim to enhance vaccine education, outreach, and access in collaboration with regional, state, and national groups.

“At GSK, we are committed to ensuring people have access to clear, trustworthy information about vaccines so they can make the best decisions for themselves and their families,” said Leonard Friedland, VP and Director, Scientific Affairs and Public Health, Vaccines, GSK. “The 2024 grant recipients designed programs tailored to their communities, empowering individuals to take charge of their preventive health.”

Among the awardees are Sepsis Alliance and Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association (PPA). Both organizations approach immunization challenges from unique perspectives. Sepsis Alliance, for example, will use grant funds to increase awareness about how vaccines can prevent sepsis, a serious and often deadly condition caused by infection. Their initiative includes social media outreach, web content, and public service advertisements in low-immunization areas.

“Each year, sepsis kills more people than cancer,” said Thomas Heymann, President and CEO of Sepsis Alliance. “This funding will help us communicate the critical role vaccination plays in preventing infections that lead to sepsis.”

Meanwhile, PPA is rolling out strategies to address seasonal gaps in adult immunization rates by equipping pharmacies statewide with tools to encourage year-round vaccinations. “With GSK’s support, we are helping pharmacies identify eligible vaccine recipients and ensure outreach aligns with patient needs,” said Victoria Elliott, CEO of PPA.

Additional grant recipients include leading organizations such as the American Heart Association, Autism Society, National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, and The Immunization Partnership. Each group will implement unique programs designed to increase immunization rates within their respective areas of focus.

Looking ahead, GSK plans to award another $2 million in 2025 to further drive vaccine education and access. Interested organizations can submit proposals for consideration, as GSK continues its mission to address immunization gaps and support preventive healthcare nationwide.
