Fresh Del Monte Invests in SEMCAP’s Food & Nutrition Strategy, Aims to Generate Impact Across the Food Supply Chain

Business News

PHILADELPHIA, PA — SEMCAP Food & Nutrition (SEMCAP) recently announced a new key partnership and investor for its inaugural Food & Nutrition investment strategy: Fresh Del Monte (NYSE: FDP). This key alliance, announced recently, marks an important milestone in SEMCAP’s journey since launching its Food & Nutrition platform in 2021.

Prior to the launch of the fund in Q4 2023, the SEMCAP food team successfully executed three transactions. Fresh Del Monte partnered with SEMCAP on two of these investments—Purely Elizabeth and Good Culture. Both companies are experiencing rapid growth and have become leaders in innovation and sustainability, earning them recognition as household names. The partnership is set to continue, with Fresh Del Monte slated to be a strategic investor in SEMCAP’s next transaction, due to be announced in the coming weeks.

Mohammad Abu-Ghazaleh, Chairman & CEO of Fresh Del Monte, expressed enthusiasm about the strengthened partnership. “By collaborating with like-minded organizations such as SEMCAP and innovative food brands, we can leverage our strengths and resources to create a meaningful impact across the food supply chain,” he said.

SEMCAP, launched in 2020 by Walter “Buck” Buckley and Cyrus Vandrevala, focuses on food, health, and education sectors, all of which have significant potential for investment and disruption. Buckley acknowledged the shifting landscape of the food industry, stating, “We are thrilled to be part of this seismic shift, by identifying and helping to build the food and nutrition brands of the future.”

The Food & Nutrition investment group is led by John Haugen, Kate Storey, and Ryan Newcom. The team seeks to invest in sustainable, high-growth businesses with over $25 million in revenue that offer category-leading products. Haugen and Newcom, both seasoned business operators, aim to drive accelerated growth and outsized returns for investors by leveraging their extensive operational expertise.
