NEWARK, DE — Delaware State Police have apprehended Nichelle-Asi Hanna, a 34-year-old woman from Newark, Delaware, on allegations of her involvement in a robbery at a local Royal Farms store. The incident reportedly occurred earlier this week, and the investigation is still ongoing.
On the morning of December 10, 2023, at roughly 6:15 a.m., troopers responded to a robbery report at the Royal Farms located at 457 Stanton Christiana Road in Newark. Upon arrival, troopers learned that an unidentified male suspect had entered the store, walked behind the counter, and demanded the employee open multiple cash registers and the lottery machine while brandishing a knife. The employee complied, and the suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.
Following investigations by Troop 2 Robbery Detectives, it was discovered that the unknown male suspect had allegedly conspired to commit the robbery with Hanna, who was recently terminated from her employment at Royal Farms. Hanna was located and arrested without incident on December 13, 2023.
Hanna has since been charged with Robbery First Degree and Conspiracy Second Degree, both felonies. Following her arraignment by Justice of the Peace Court 2, she was committed to Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on a $22,000 cash bond.
The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Criminal Investigations Unit is continuing its efforts to identify the unknown male suspect involved in the robbery. They are urging anyone with information regarding this case to contact Detective J. Dempsey at (302) 365-8472 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
It’s important to remember that an arrest or criminal complaint does not constitute a declaration of guilt. Hanna, like all suspects, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Further details may emerge as the investigation proceeds, and information is subject to change.
