PHILADELPHIA, PA — Chris’ Jazz Café is set to host two standout events this March, cementing its legacy as a premier venue in Philadelphia’s vibrant music scene. From Mardi Gras revelry to a historic live recording session, the iconic jazz club promises unforgettable experiences for music enthusiasts and food lovers alike.

Mardi Gras Festivities – March 4

On Tuesday, March 4, Chris’ Jazz Café transforms into a New Orleans hotspot, celebrating Mardi Gras with a lively blend of music, food, and tradition. Starting at 7 p.m., the Hoppin’ John Orchestra—a ten-piece brass band renowned for its dynamic second-line grooves—will kick off the evening with a parade through the streets of Philadelphia. Marching east on Chestnut Street, the band will weave its way onto Sansom Street before arriving at Chris’, where the festivities continue right onto the stage for two energetic shows at 7 and 9 p.m.

Inside, guests can indulge in a delicious lineup of Creole-inspired dishes, including jambalaya, gumbo, crawdad cheesesteaks, bayou mac & cheese, house-made beignets, and buckets of steamed crawfish. Specialty Mardi Gras cocktails and vibrant décor complete the celebration. Tickets are $20, inviting everyone to join the fun in true New Orleans fashion.

The Alexander Claffy Quintet Live Recording – March 7-8

Later in the week, on Friday and Saturday, March 7 and 8, the café will host a significant milestone in the career of bassist Alexander Claffy. The Philadelphia area native will record his first live album as a bandleader, aptly titled Live in Philly, at Chris’. With release slated for early 2026, the recordings mark a heartfelt tribute to the venue where Claffy first performed jazz.

“This is more than a recording; it’s a homecoming,” said Claffy, reflecting on his long history with Chris’ Jazz Café. He highlighted the venue’s pivotal role in his musical development and its enduring impact on the jazz world.
