TOWNSEND, DE — A tragic pedestrian accident occurred on Wednesday evening, November 29, 2023, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old woman from Townsend, Delaware. The incident is currently under investigation by the Delaware State Police.
At approximately 5:33 p.m., a white 2005 Mitsubishi Galant was traveling in the left southbound lane of Dupont Parkway near the intersection with Main Drive. The pedestrian, who was wearing dark clothing, was in the southbound lanes of the road, which is known to be poorly lit in the evening hours. As a result, the pedestrian was struck by the Mitsubishi and subsequently hit by a gray 2019 Toyota Tacoma and a blue 2012 Mazda CX-9 traveling in the same lane.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity is being withheld until her family and relatives are notified.
The drivers involved in the incident, a 39-year-old woman from Dover driving the Mitsubishi, a 49-year-old man from Townsend driving the Toyota, and a 51-year-old woman from Smyrna driving the Mazda, did not sustain any injuries in the accident.
The section of Dupont Parkway where the crash occurred was closed for approximately five hours while investigators analyzed the scene and cleared the area.
No charges have been filed at this time. The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
