MIDDLETOWN, DE — A single-vehicle crash in Middletown, Delaware, on Monday night has left one man dead, according to the Delaware State Police.
The incident occurred around 9:05 p.m. on March 11, 2024, on Boyds Corner Road, east of Ratledge Road. The driver, a 66-year-old man from Lebanon, Pennsylvania, was traveling eastbound in a maroon 2008 Saturn Vue when the vehicle failed to negotiate a right curve.
For reasons still under investigation, the Saturn continued in an easterly direction, crossing the westbound lane and shoulder of Boyds Corner Road. It then exited the roadway, striking a support guy wire of a utility pole before colliding with the corner of an unoccupied residence. The vehicle finally came to rest after hitting the home’s large raised concrete porch.
Tragically, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified.
The accident led to the closure of Boyds Corner Road for approximately one hour, and the shoulder was closed for about three hours while investigators examined the scene and cleared the roadway.
The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit is handling the ongoing investigation into this fatal incident. Witnesses or anyone with information about the crash are urged to contact Senior Corporal M. Calio at (302) 365-8483.
