WILMINGTON, DE — Farmers of Salem is celebrating the exceptional community work of Tammy Stell, Claims Customer Service Supervisor, who has combined her love for animals and her commitment to community service to make a meaningful impact.

Together with her husband, Al Stell, Tammy founded Bo Lends a PAW Pet Pantry in June 2020 with the goal of alleviating the financial strain on pet owners in need. The inspiration for the nonprofit struck during the COVID pandemic when Al witnessed a woman struggle to afford pet food and groceries at a store. The pantry, named after the family’s adopted dog, Bo, supports families by providing food for their pets, helping to reduce animal surrenders to shelters and keeping animals off the streets.

“We want to help people with their animals, so there will be less animals on the streets and less animals being ‘surrendered,’” Tammy explained. “It helps relieve the financial burden on people, allowing them to focus on paying for other essential items they need.”

Since its founding, the organization has garnered significant recognition, recently earning the title of Best Community Strengthening Non-Profit in the 2025 Best in Salem County contest. Looking ahead, Bo Lends a PAW will celebrate its five-year anniversary on June 7, 2025, with a festive event at the Engine House in Pennsville, NJ. The pantry has also been actively engaging the local community, including a recent meet-and-greet event at a school where students conducted a donation drive and had the chance to meet Bo Stell.

Tammy, who is nearing her six-year work anniversary at Farmers of Salem, reflected on her dual passions for her job and her non-profit initiative. “I love my job!” she said, emphasizing how rewarding it is to make a difference both in her professional life and through her volunteer work.
