Extensive Roadwork on U.S. 422 to Cause Significant Delays

Traffic Alert

LOWER POTTSGROVE TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that major construction activities will commence next week on U.S. 422, Sanatoga Road, and Porter Road as part of an $83.6 million project. This initiative aims to reconstruct and improve approximately 2.1 miles of expressway and replace bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County.

Beginning Sunday, June 23, and running through Friday, June 28, a lane closure will be in effect on eastbound U.S. 422 between Keim Street and Evergreen Road from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM for roadway reconstruction. Concurrently, westbound U.S. 422 will experience a lane closure between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard from 8:00 PM to 2:00 PM the following day.

Further disruptions will occur on Monday, June 24, through Friday, June 28, from 4:00 AM to 2:00 PM on westbound U.S. 422 between Route 724 and Route 100 interchanges, where a right lane closure will facilitate utility installation. A similar right lane closure will impact eastbound U.S. 422 between the Route 100 and Route 724 interchanges from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Sanatoga Road will also face lane closures from Monday through Friday, 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM, between Linfield Road and High Street for traffic barrier installation. Additionally, Porter Road will have flagger-controlled lane closures between Sanatoga Station Road and High Street during the same hours for similar installations.

Motorists should plan for significant delays and are advised to allow extra time when traveling through these areas. All scheduled activities are contingent upon weather conditions.

The extensive Section M1B project will see U.S. 422 reconstructed on both existing and revised alignments. These enhancements aim to improve horizontal curve radii, shoulder widths, and vertical clearance, thereby boosting travel efficiency and safety. The Sprogels Run culvert, just east of Porter Road, along with the single-span bridge carrying U.S. 422 over Porter Road, will be replaced with a new two-span bridge. Furthermore, the bridge carrying U.S. 422 over Sanatoga Road and Sanatoga Creek will be widened and rebuilt.

This crucial infrastructure project seeks to modernize the key transportation route, ensuring it meets current and future traffic demands while enhancing overall safety for motorists and pedestrians.
