PHILADELPHIA, PA — Beginning Monday, February 26, motorists in Philadelphia and Montgomery counties should brace themselves for potential traffic slowdowns. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has scheduled bridge and sign inspections on Interstate 95, I-76, and several other state highways.
In Philadelphia, the first round of work will start at 9:00 AM on February 26 with a right lane closure at the Academy Road Interchange on northbound I-95 for a bridge inspection. This will last until noon when a similar closure will begin on the southbound side.
On both Monday and Tuesday, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, right lane closures are planned in both directions on I-76 between the Montgomery Drive and Spring Garden interchanges for overhead sign inspection. Overhead signs, which direct drivers to exits or give important information about road conditions, require regular maintenance to ensure their visibility and reliability.
Starting Monday and continuing through Wednesday, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM each day, alternating lane closures will occur in both directions on I-95 between the I-76 East and the Route 291 interchanges for another round of overhead sign inspection.
In Montgomery County, expect moving alternating lane closures in both directions on U.S. 422 on Monday, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, between the U.S. 202 and the Route 23 interchanges in Upper Merion Township for overhead sign inspection. On Wednesday, February 28, a left lane closure is scheduled on northbound I-476 between the I-76 and the Norristown interchanges in West Conshohocken Borough and Plymouth Township from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM for bridge inspection.
Motorists are urged to allow extra time when traveling through these work areas, as slowdowns may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent. These inspections are crucial for maintaining the safety and integrity of the state’s infrastructure.
