PHILADELPHIA, PA — The upcoming installation In the soft light at the InLiquid Gallery in South Kensington invites viewers to reconsider traditional notions of masculinity through the unique perspectives of four artists. On view from April 10 to May 31, 2025, the exhibit brings together photographers T.W. Moore, German Ayala Vazquez, and Robert Carter, alongside sculptor Michael Biello, to explore themes of intimacy, vulnerability, and the male form through a blend of photography and sculpture.

Each artist presents a distinct approach to the subject. Michael Biello contributes sculptural chandeliers inspired by Italian decorative arts and architecture, merging elegance with narratives of eroticism. Collaborating with Biello, T.W. Moore reflects on the fragility of the body through works influenced by the AIDS epidemic, juxtaposing early pieces from the 1980s with his recent series that examine the relationship between the human form and nature.

Robert Carter uses opulent settings to place their subjects in spaces they historically may not have occupied, aiming to universalize the themes of romance and closeness. German Ayala Vazquez highlights Afroqueer identities, focusing on the resilience and tenderness of marginalized communities, while challenging patriarchal and Eurocentric standards.

The exhibit can be visited from noon to 6 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday, at the Crane Arts Building, 1400 N. American Street. This thought-provoking showcase offers an intimate perspective on how masculinity can manifest in softness and light.

The public is invited to free receptions on Thursday, April 10, and Thursday, May 8, from 6–9 pm. RSVP HERE.
